About the Gathering

The Summer Solstice is the longest day and shortest night of the year; a turning point in the wheel of the seasons when the sun reaches its fullest expression. For thousands of years, cultures across the world have marked this moment as a celebration of light, growth, vitality and abundance. It is a time when the natural world is at its most alive: flowers in bloom, hedgerows thick with green, birds busy in the late light and the air carrying the hum of summer.

We will gather in celebration to watch the sunset and, as always, enjoy a bring-and-share picnic to enjoy together. As our ancestors did, we’ll commune around the fire with music, story and poetry! If you play or sing, please come prepared to share your musical, poetry or story offerings with us in a grounded, beautiful space.

In the spirit of the festival the theme for the meal is: Summer Picnic: think veggie/vegan salads, fruit, nourishing seasonal delights.

No requirement to participate, listening and offering your presence is enough, but we do encourage everyone to consider the benefit of contributing to the space as an active participant…it’s a beautiful thing to give as well as to receive.

What to Expect

  • Simple opening welcome ritual to set the tone and theme

  • Seasonal reflections

  • Informal community connection

  • Shared vegetarian/vegan meal

  • A fire, if the weather permits

  • Poetry, stories or music shared voluntarily

You are welcome to participate as much or as little as feels right.

Who It’s For

This is an open, kind and inclusive space for open, kind and inclusive people. We organise our gatherings based on those who come and participate in them. The aim is for these gatherings to be collaborative. If you find there are barriers to participating, please reach out for a chat about how we might remove those barriers.

Read the This Mortal Life FAQ for more info. If you have questions or concerns, please contact me, I’d love to listen and discuss these with you.
