Reflecting on Ostara
As you may know, I like to follow the Wheel of the Year, a seasonal framework rooted in ancient druid traditions and earth-based mythologies. It offers eight points across the year to pause, reflect, and realign, inviting us to move a little more slowly and consciously in a world that often asks the opposite of us.
Ostara, the Spring Equinox, marks a point of balance, when day and night stand equal. From here, the light begins to return in earnest. You can feel it in the subtle shifts: buds forming on branches, longer evenings stretching out, a quiet change in energy. Not everything is fully alive yet, but something is undeniably stirring…both in nature, and in us.
Beginnings rarely arrive fully formed. They tend to be tender, uncertain, full of potential. This time of year invites a simple question: what is beginning to emerge for me? It might be a feeling, a curiosity, a desire, or a plan slowly coming into focus. Whatever is rising, this is a moment to notice it, to make space for it and to give it just enough attention to see where it might lead.
In many ways, This Mortal Life has grown in exactly this way. Not forced, but allowed. What began as an idea has unfolded step by step into a living, breathing community, and I’m continuing to trust what wants to emerge next.
Last night, at our Spring Equinox gathering, seven of us came together on the beach. We shared food, watched the sun set and gathered around the fire in conversation, with the steady rhythm of the tide moving in behind us. It was a simple, beautiful way to mark the turning of the season.
There’s something quietly powerful about choosing to pause like this. To slow down. To notice. And perhaps even more so when we do it together.
If you like the sound of this, you may want to join us for our next gathering.
