Memento Makers is a series of creative workshops at Weston Artspace, leading up to Good Grief Weston (15–18 October).

Through creativity, we'll explore ideas around personal legacy, remembrance and the ways we keep our people and their stories alive. These workshops offer a chance to slow down, reflect and create something meaningful to keep.

📖 Sunday 4 October — Memento Makers Legacy Book Workshop

What stories, memories and pieces of yourself would you want to leave behind?

Explore the idea of personal legacy curation and begin creating your own legacy scrapbook; a living collection of photographs, memories, words, stories and meaningful objects that you can continue to build over time.

🖼️ Saturday 10 October — Memento Makers Framed Remembrance Collage Workshop

How do we honour the memory of our people?

Use images, words and creative collage to reflect on and honour the memory of someone important to you. Create your own A4 framed artwork; a personal object of remembrance to keep and revisit.

Saturday 17 October | 11am-3pm | Italian Gardens

Across the weekend, the Italian Gardens will host a welcoming, all-weather marquee featuring live performances, art, creative workshops, and shared meals.

On Saturday 17 October, 11am - 3pm the marquee will transform into the Good Grief Marketplace—the central heart of the festival. This friendly, gentle space offers local grief services, support networks, community groups, and death care professionals a platform to share information, host gentle activities, and offer guidance to festival-goers at their own pace.

This Mortal Life will be present with a stall offering some creative activities, ideas and resources to further explore legacy and remembrance. Come say hello!

Sunday 18 October | 1–5pm | Weston Artspace Cabin, Old Town Quarry

How do we remember the people who have shaped our lives? What do we leave behind when we die? And what does legacy mean to you?

As part of Good Grief Weston, Weston Artspace is hosting the Memento Makers Art Exhibition; an afternoon exploring the connections between grief, memory, creativity and legacy.

Inspired by the Latin phrase memento legatum — remember the legacy — the exhibition asks us to consider how we remember those we've lost, the stories and objects we hold onto, and the traces we leave behind ourselves.

The exhibition will bring together work created through our Memento Makers creative workshops, alongside our collaborative community art project 52 Meditations on Mortality.

We're inviting local artists and creatives of all kinds to contribute a piece of work exploring the themes of memory and legacy.

Your work might ask:

• How do we remember our people?
• What memories do we choose to hold onto?
• What does legacy mean to you?
• What traces do we leave behind?
• How can creativity help us remember, honour or make meaning from loss?

We're open toart in all its forms; from painting, photography and illustration to sculpture, textiles, collage, poetry and other creative responses.

You don't need to be a professional artist. You simply need something to say about memory, legacy, loss, love or the things we leave behind.
